Santa Rosa, facing an increasing population and contracting revenues, had a pair of stories in the news this week. First off, the city's firefighters and cops gave up their raises to avoid layoffs in the city departments. “My faith has been restored. You came through,” Mayor Susan Gorin said as she and other City Council members rose in unison to show their appreciation as the concessions were announced. read more on that story in the Press Democrat.
