You may have watched the Republican presidential debate on Tuesday night, but there was also another debate going on in the city of San Francisco (one could say the debates were worlds apart in terms of politics). There are a whopping 16 candidates vying to be the next mayor of the iconic Bay Area city and in around 4 weeks, voters will cast their ballots. The candidates represent a wide-range of professions, including the current interim mayor, a state senator, two supervisors, an educator, an entrepreneur, an entertainer, a taxi cab driver, and even a former nightclub owner, among others. You can hear interviews with many of the candidates here. The Chronicle called the debate “relatively witty, sometimes lively and fairly interesting.” Among the topics discussed were job creation, taxis, Muni, parking tickets, the homeless, and even nudity. Only 11 of the 16 candidates were on hand for the debate Tuesday, which still is quite a lineup.
